What is TEF/TEFAQ?

TEF (Test d’évaluation du Français)

TEF is the évaluation of French proficiency level of an individual looking to immigrate to Canada/Quebec or France for work and study. The test was curated by the French Language Centre of the CCI Paris Ile-de-France in 1998.

TEF exam has received global recognition by the organizations and universities in Canada, France, and many other Francophone countries. TEF Modules and Examination

TEF Canada consists of 4 modules (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) of 2 hours 55 minutes that a candidate must succeed for the immigration to Canada. Below are the formal names of the modules along with their duration and scores:

  • Compréhension écrite (WrittenComprehension): 60 Minutes - 300 Points (50 Questions)
  • Compréhension orale (Oral Comprehension): 40 Minutes - 360 Points (40 Questions)      
  • Expression écrite (Written Expression): 60 Minutes - 450 Points (2 Subjects)
  • Expression Orale (Oral Expression): 15 Minutes - 450 Points (2 Subjects)

Canadian Federal Government - CIC considers the results of these 4 modules for immigration purposes.

TEFAQ (Test d'Évaluation de Français Adapté au Québec)

Like TEF, TEFAQ is also a test to evaluate the linguistic knowledge and proficiency in French. The Quebec Ministry for Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) has mandated this test for immigration and citizenship purposes in Quebec.

TEFAQ is majorly required by Quebec/France immigration that demands the B2 level (upper-intermediate). Also, this test is compulsory for Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) application.

TEFAQ Modules and Examination

Unlike TEF, TEFAQ consists of only two modules (Listening and Speaking). These modules are designed to examine whether the candidate can live and interact in Quebec/France. Below are the module with duration and subject/section:-

1. Compréhension Orale (Oral Compréhension): 40 Minutes - 60 Questions (4 Sections)
2. Expression Orale (Oral Expression): 15 Minutes - 2 Questions.
